Ethnographie des jeux du corps dans le maracatu rural (Pernambuco, Brésil)

En permettant de tripler le regard sur un même objet performatif, les notions de performativité, spectacularité et relation symbiotique aident à atteindre le corps dans sa matérialité concrète et ses conséquences dans les rapports sociaux. En les utilisant dans une ethnographie du maracatu rural, forme spectaculaire du Pernambuco (Brésil), ce texte analyse les modalités d’insertion et d’isolement que les performeurs élaborent à partir de leurs pratiques physiques et leurs manières de travailler le corps. Ils y trouvent un espace de recouvrement de soi alors que la société pernambucana cherche à se caractériser en tentant de s’approprier leur héritage performatif. Tandis que celle‑ci opère à des racialisations permanentes et à des recompositions identitaires de la critique culturelle, ceux-là semblent trouver dans le corps et par le corps leur seul espace de reconnaissance. Ils échappent aux normalisations du social alors qu’ils expérimentent et construisent un autre sensible dans un contexte où la marginalité des uns est utilisée pour édifier la spécificité des autres.

In making it possible to view the same performative object in three different ways, the notions of performativity, specularity and symbiotic relation help us to analyse the body in its concrete materiality and its effects in social relationships. By applying them in an ethnography of maracatu rural, a performance from Pernambuco (Brazil) this text analyses the modalities of insertion and isolation elaborated by the performers through their physical actions and their ways of working the body. They find there a way of removing themselves from the attempts by pernambucana society to define itself through the appropriation of their performative heritage. While the latter is involved in the constant racialisation and identity-based reconstructions of cultural critique, the former seem to find self-recognition only in and through the body. They escape from the « normatisation » of society through testing out and constructing a sensitive being in a context where the marginality of some is used to construct the specificity of others.
