Cet article s’efforce de resserrer le lien entre architecture et littérature. Il défend l’idée qu’un édifice s’écrit et que, à l’inverse, un texte se construit. La dimension grammaticale et linguistique de l’architecture a pour symétrique la dimension spatiale et structurale de la littérature. En rapprochant l’architecture moderne de la littérature d’enquête, on peut introduire un troisième terme à la comparaison : les sciences sociales. Finalement, toutes ces disciplines ont un noyau commun : l’art de la construction. Par conséquent, la vocation du chercheur-écrivain n’est pas de pratiquer une « déconstruction » sans fin, mais une construction, c’est-à-dire une activité de conception et de création. Dégageant les structures du réel, il pratique une architecture indissociablement cognitive et littéraire : le texte-recherche.
