Attraverso un’analisi dei contratti notarili genovesi e della documentazione doganale inglese della prima metà del XV secolo, l’Autore individua le trasformazioni nel modus operandi dei mercanti genovesi che appaiono indicative di un progressivo passaggio dalla figura del “mercante universale”, tipica del Medioevo, a quella del monopolista e del finanziere, proprie dell’Età moderna.

Through an analysis of Genoese notarial contracts and English customs documentation of the first half of the 15th century, the author identifies the transformations in the modus operandi of the Genoese merchants which signal a progressive transition from the figure of the “universal merchant”, typical of the Middle Ages, to that of monopolist and financier, typical of the Modern Age.
