Circolazione di scritti edificanti nei monasteri e nei circoli devoti femminili in Toscana nel Basso Medioevo

Il saggio indaga la produzione di testi religiosi ed edificanti realizzata a Firenze presso il monastero domenicano osservante di Santa Lucia e presso il monastero di Santa Brigida al Paradiso, cercando di rintracciare il profilo delle copiste ed i legami creati da queste comunità claustrali con personaggi, istituzioni e gruppi di devoti cittadini. Analizzandone la produzione, si mettono in evidenza i testi scelti dalle monache e laddove possibile se ne recuperano le modalità di trasmissione. Parallelamente si indaga il contesto religioso senese coevo, identificando almeno un importante scriptorium monastico femminile e ricostruendo la fisionomia e le letture dei gruppi religiosi di donne senesi dell’epoca.

The essay investigates the production of religious and edifying texts carried out in Florence at the observant Dominican monastery of Santa Lucia and at the monastery of Santa Brigida al Paradiso, trying to trace the profile of the copyist nuns and also trying to trace the profile of the devoted links created by these communities with personalities, urban institutions and groups of devoted citizens. Analysing this kind of production, the texts chosen by the nuns are highlighted and, where possible, the methods of transmission are recovered. At the same time, the contemporary Sienese religious context is investigated, identifying at least one important female monastic scriptorium and reconstructing the identity and the readings of the contemporary Sienese religious groups of women.
