Vladislav Zubok’s book Collapse. The Fall of the Soviet Union is an engaging and beautifully written account of the crisis and dissolution of the USSR. The reader follows the unfolding of events through Mikhail Gorbachev’s and other key actors’ dilemmas and initiatives, as well as the daily management of the crisis that perestroika reforms unleashed and accelerated.
