Agriculture has been Thailand’s main economic activity for centuries. In the 1960s, however, the country entered into a phase of rapid industrialization as a result of government interventions financed by public, private, national and international sources. The agricultural sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product has been in constant decline since: from 40% in 1960 to around 10% in 2000.
