Depuis 1964, date de la découverte du site magdalénien de Pincevent par l’équipe d’A. Leroi-Gourhan, les méthodes de fouilles et d’analyse des données ont évolué. C’est ainsi que nous avons pu mettre en évidence, sur le niveau IV20, l’existence d’un campement s’étendant sur près de 5000 m2 qui nous permet de reconstituer la vie des chasseurs de rennes d’il y a 13 000 ans. L’étude, résolument palethnologique se fonde à la fois sur une description des faits archéologiques et sur une interprétation enrichie par les données ethnoarchéologiques. Un faisceau d’indices suggère la présence de quatre familles représentant une trentaine de personnes. L’analyse de l’organisation et de la fonction de la vingtaine d’unités d’occupation concerne d’abord les quatre résidences centrales puis les ateliers techniques périphériques. Des propositions sont faites sur la nature des rapports sociaux entre les familles de chasseurs qui paraissent avoir obéi à un individu particulier dont l’expérience permettait sans doute d’orienter les stratégies de chasse.

Since 1964, when the Magdalenian site of Pincevent was discovered by A. Leroi-Gourhan and his team, the methods of excavation and analysis have evolved. On the level IV20, it has then been possible to recognize a camp extending over an area of nearly 5000 square meters, allowing a reconstitution of the life of reindeer hunters 13000 years ago. This study is based on both a description of the archaeological facts and an interpretation enhanced by the contribution of ethnoarchaeological data. A bundle of marks suggests that four families corresponding to an amount of about thirty people were present. The analysis of the organisation and function of the twenty occupation-units is first dedicated to the four central habitations, then to the peripheral technical units. We are questioning the nature of the relationships between the families of hunters. It seems that the group was submitted to the authority of one person whose great experience allowed the orientation of the hunting strategies.
