Diego Garate Maidagan et al., « Au cœur du carrefour symbolique du golfe de Gascogne », Les nouvelles de l'archéologie, ID : 10.4000/nda.5266
The Palaeolithic cave art in Europe is specially concentrated in the Cantabrian, Pyrenean and Perigordian regions since the beginning of the research in the early twentieth century. Anyway, in the meeting point between them, where different exchanges should be taken place, there was an incomprehensible absence in the archaeological record, concerning symbolic activities.During the last fifteen years the discoveries of cave art have been exponentially reactivated in this central area, largely by the implementation of specific surveying projects. Therefore, a new reality has been configured that provides a different vision on the conformation and development of the symbolic activity developed in the caves of the Basque Country. Subsequently, this situation will allow us to better understanding the cultural interaction between the main regions of Cantabrian, Pyrenees and the Périgord in the future.
