L’héritage des tracés d’époque coloniale française en Algérie face au projet urbain

Ce que nous souhaiterions aborder dans la présente contribution concerne un aspect assez particulier de l’héritage de la colonisation française. C’est celui des traces et tracés des ingénieurs du génie et de ceux des Ponts et Chaussées dans la fondation des villes. En effet, ces tracés géométriques, une fois identifiés, représentent une structure indéniable dans l’élaboration des projets urbains, tant pour les restructurations que pour les extensions. Nous proposons d’illustrer, à travers un exemple de fondation de village de colonisation (binôme village/périmètre de colonisation), le tracé hypothétique à la base de l’installation. Nous terminerons par des simulations des incidences structurelles sur la ville actuelle. Nous concluons en suggérant qu’il est nécessaire de connaître et de reconnaître cette mémoire matérielle implicite. Cette dernière marque et façonne nos territoires et pourrait, à terme, participer à l’élaboration d’un fondement théorique indispensable à la conception des instruments d’urbanisme.

What we wish to tackle in the present contribution concerns a rather peculiar aspect of the French colonisation legacy. The one dealing with the tracks and layouts of civil and structural engineering in the cities’ foundations. Indeed, these geometric layouts, once being identified, represent an undeniable structure in the process of elaborating urban projects à both for redevelopments and expansions. Through an example of the foundation of a colonisation village (the pair village/colonisation area), we suggest to illustrate the hypothetical layout which is at the basis of the facility. We will finish with some simulations of the structural impacts on the present city. We shall conclude by suggesting that it is necessary to know and to acknowledge this implicit material memory. The latter marks out and shape our territories and could eventually participate in the creation of a theoretical cornerstone that would be essential to the conception of the urban instruments.
