This research sets out to analyse the conception of time held by young women, a cultural indicator par excellence, for an appraciation of the most complete and far-reaching aspects of youthful culture in the feminin. The attitudes of young women toward the two fundamental times marking out their lives - the time for work and the time for love - brings to light a new mode of adhering to the principles of modernity, of bringing its purpose to fullfillment. The present is their preferred temporal dimension because their motivation is ambivalent. They seek a balance between themes - rationalization and subjectiva- tion - which, though discordant, are, none the less, essential for establishment of their identity. The latest arrivals on the scene of male culture, though traditionally the ones who undertake the care of family life, young women seem the best equipped to face a world in which those who only pursue the most celebrated ideas of modernity must inevitably encounter insuperable obstacles of meaning.
