In November 2016, in the wake of his surprise victory, U.S. president-elect Donald Trump announced that he had successfully negotiated the retention of 1,000 jobs previously destined for Mexico. Carrier, an air-conditioning manufacturer, agreed to keep the positions at its Indiana plant in exchange for state tax cuts and other government perks.
