L’étude croisée d’Adorno et de Foucault suscite depuis quelque temps un regain d’intérêt contrasté : en Allemagne et dans le monde anglo-saxon, plusieurs auteur·e·s s’y consacrent, alors que c’est moins le cas en France, malgré le dynamisme nouveau des études autour de la première Théorie critique et l’héritage de Foucault. Cet article se propose d’élucider certaines des causes de ce phénomène, en partant d’une hypothèse : construire une confrontation entre Adorno et Foucault dans le contexte français est difficile non du fait de la divergence entre ces deux auteurs, mais du fait de leur convergence au sujet de la critique de la rationalité moderne. Cette convergence suscite une difficulté majeure : Adorno et Foucault déploient des critiques de la raison, qui, quoique relativement analogues, produisent deux concepts nettement distincts de déraison, qui ont partie liée avec leur considération de la psychanalyse. Cet article entend prendre en charge cette difficulté et proposer l’esquisse d’une nouvelle manière d’aborder la confrontation entre Adorno et Foucault.

Seit ein paar Jahren weckt die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Adorno und Foucault ein sowohl neues als auch differenziertes Interesse: In Deutschland und in der angelsächsischen Welt widmen sich mehrere Autoren diesem Thema, während dies in Frankreich weniger der Fall ist, trotz einer neuen Dynamik in den Diskussionen um die frühe Kritische Theorie und das Erbe Foucaults. Dieser Artikel beschreibt einige Ursachen dieses Phänomens und entwickelt die Hypothese, dass im französischen Kontext eine Konfrontation zwischen Adorno und Foucault nicht wegen der Divergenzen zwischen den beiden Autoren schwierig ist, sondern vielmehr wegen der Konvergenz in ihrer Kritik der modernen Rationalität. Diese Konvergenz wirft das Problem auf, dass Adorno und Foucault zwar ähnliche Formen der Vernunftkritik vertreten, jedoch zwei unterschiedliche Begriffe von Unvernunft entwickeln, die von ihrer Aufwertung jeweiliger Interpretation der Psychoanalyse abhängen. Dieser Artikel möchte sich diesem Problem stellen, um der Konfrontation zwischen Adorno und Foucault neue Konturen zu verleihen.

The confrontation between Adorno and Foucault has given rise, for an extended period of time, to a renewed, albeit mixed, interest. Whereas in Germany and in the Anglo-Saxon world several authors are working on this issue, this is not so much the case in France, despite the new dynamism of studies dealing with the first Critical Theory and Foucault’s heritage. This article aims at elucidating some of the causes of this phenomenon, starting from the following hypothesis: confronting Adorno with Foucault in the French context is difficult, not because of the divergences between these two authors, but rather because of their convergence with regard to the critique of modern rationality. This convergence raises a major difficulty: their critiques of reason, even if very similar, lead to two distinct concepts of unreason, which are related to their understanding and appraisal of psychoanalysis. This article intends to address this difficulty and propose the outlines of a novel way of interrogating the confrontation between Adorno and Foucault.
