L’exégète qui aborde la rédaction d’un commentaire (ici celui de 2 Co pour la série EKK) se livre à des réflexions de fond sur sa tâche. Il s’interroge sur l’objectif poursuivi, le lectorat visé et la méthode à privilégier. Il n’a pas la totale liberté de choix puisque la série qui accueillera le nouveau commentaire a un profil prédéfini. EKK privilégie la méthode historico-critique, ne vise pas l’érudition philologique ou historique pure, est ouverte sur la dimension théologique des textes et suppose un lectorat formé. Néanmoins le commentateur imprimera sa marque personnelle, par exemple en visant un lecteur implicite désireux de lire l’ouvrage entier ou en complétant la méthode classique par les acquis récents des sciences sociales ou de l’histoire des effets du texte (Wirkungsgeschichte).

The commentator who starts writing an exegesis (in our case the commentary of 2 Co for the EKK series) goes deep into the background of his task. He wonders about the aim to be achieved, the readership he expects and the method to be privileged. He is not totally free as the collection that will include the new commentary has its own profile : EKK gives the first place to the historico-critical approach, does not aim at philological or historical scholarly science, is open to the theological meaning of the texts and is aimed at a cultivated readership. Yet the commentator will leave his personal mark, e.g. by having in his mind a reader that he supposes to be anxious to read the whole book or by complementing the classical method with the recent developments of social sciences or of the history of the impact of the texts (Wirkungsgeschichte).
