L’incendie du Palais Nord de Ras Ibn Hani. Traces et modalités d’une catastrophe

L’incendie très violent qu’a subi le Palais Nord de Ras Ibn Hani à la fin de son existence a laissé de nombreuses traces, dont certaines sont inévitablement détruites par le processus de la fouille. Celles qui subsistent dans le monument une fois dégagé pourraient, dans certains cas, suggérer des interprétations erronées. On s’efforce ici de mettre en relation ces indices préservés et ceux que le dégagement des ruines a détruits, de façon à permettre une lecture des vestiges qui tienne compte de l’ensemble des données. D’autre part, en évaluant la violence du feu secteur par secteur, on en vient à renforcer l’hypothèse d’un incendie volontaire, alimenté par l’apport intentionnel de combustible.

The life of the Northern Palace at Ras Ibn Hani was put to an end by a violent fire, part of the marks of which unavoidably got destroyed during the excavation process. Those that survive on the walls and floors of the ruins once they have been laid bare can easily, if considered by themselves alone, lead the observer to erroneous interpretations. This paper first tries to relate the preserved marks and those that have been destroyed by excavation, so as to facilitate a reading of the ruins that will take into account the complete data. Secondly, evaluating the violence of the fire in the various areas of the building allows to give more strength to the hypothesis of an intentional fire, purposely fed with fuel brought from outside.

خلاصة – الحريق العنيف الذي أصاب القصر الشمالي في موقع رأس ابن هاني في أواخر فترة وجوده ترك آثاراً عديدة، والتي تخرب بعضاً منها حتماً بطريقة لم نستطع تجنبها أثناء سياق الحفريات. وآثار هذا الحريق الموجود في القصر وعند اكتشافها، كان يمكنها، في بعض الحالات، الإيحاء بتفسيرات خاطئة. ونحاول هذا مجبرين على إقامة علاقة بين هذه البقايا المحفوظة وتلك التي خربتها عملية التنقيب الأثري في بقايا القصر، بالطريقة التي تسمح بقراءة المعطيات الموجودة لفهم مجموعة الوعطيات الكلية. وبتقييمنا لشدة الحريق من قطاع إلى آخر، قا دنا ذلك إلى تقوية الفرضية القائلة بحدوث هذا الحريق طوعياً، وهو الذي غذي من خلال جلب مواد قابلة للإشتعال.
