L’itinéraire maritime d’une reine d’Ougarit : note sur le texte RS 94.2406

– Le texte RS 94.2406 tient une place importante dans le corpus des textes épistolaires d’Ougarit, en raison de son bon état de préservation et de son sujet. Alors qu’elle est partie d’Ougarit en bateau pour rejoindre l’Anatolie, une reine d’Ougarit dont on ne connaît pas le nom envoie une lettre à l’un de ses serviteurs, Ourtenou, resté à Ougarit. C’est dans la demeure de ce dernier que la lettre contenant les instructions à tenir pour la conduite des affaires de la reine dans la capitale fut découverte. Un certain Ilimilku a ajouté un bref message à cette missive afin d’insister sur la gravité de la situation. La présente étude porte sur un aspect de l’interprétation de ce document qui n’a reçu pour le moment que peu d’attention, à savoir le trajet maritime et peut-être fluvial de la reine jusqu’à Adana, ainsi que les deux étapes supplémentaires mentionnées dans la lettre et dont la localisation est aujourd’hui inconnue.

– RS 94.2406 holds an important place among the epistolary texts in the Ugaritic language because of its generally good state of preservation and because of its extraordinary content: while traveling by ship from Ugarit to Anatolia, a queen of Ugarit, who does not identify herself by name, sends a letter back to one of her loyal servants in Ugarit, the Urtenu in whose dwelling the tablet was discovered, with instructions regarding his handling of certain of her affairs in the city that she had just left. To this letter, a certain Ilimilku adds a brief message of his own emphasizing the gravity of the situation. The present study deals with one aspect of the interpretation of this document that has hitherto received scant attention: the details of the sea voyage itself, of the first stage within the Cilician plain, from the coast inland to the town of Adana, and, finally, with the problems posed by the two following stages, named by the queen in her letter but whose location is today unknown.
