During the summer of 2015, death struck two young survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi living in diaspora, Berthe Kayitesi and Leander Rugali Murara. Berthe Kayi-tesi was 36 years old when she died of an aneurysm on 23 June 2015. She lived in Canada and had completed her university studies and recently defended her doctoral thesis (Kayitesi 2014).
