In his Last Judgment for S. M. degli Angeli, Fra Angelico visualizes the mystical places and colors of the soul, imagery that relates to the Christian Platonism of the Cappadocian Fathers, whose works were read and translated by Ambrogio Traversari. In the 1420s, Fra Angelico painted a mystical Last Judgment for Santa Maria degli Angeli, the urban monastery of the Camaldolese Order.
