Huu Dao was born in Hai-Phong. He and his family moved to Saigon in 1954, when the Communists took over the north of Vietnam. He moved to Liège in 1970 to pursue his studies. He never returned to his country of origin. Since his arrival, he has been involved in various Belgian and European associations campaigning for democracy in Vietnam.
