With a sequel to Todd Phillips’s Joker now confirmed [Phillips 2022], it is more than ever time for me to unearth some still unexploited archives. While working on an article published in 2020 on the controversial 2019 movie, I had considered a number of points that related the movie and its central protagonist Arthur Fleck to Edgar Alan Poe, and most strikingly Fleck's many connections to the main character in Poe’s 1849 short story “Hop-Frog” [Mouleux 2020, §46].
