Tutto ciò che riguarda l’oscurità differisce a seconda di una vasta gamma di fattori tra cui età storica, società, sesso, classe sociale, occupazioni. Si vuole qui intendere tutto quello che riempie di vita la notte, dalle attività economiche, politiche, sociali, culturali e religiose degli esseri umani al comportamento degli animali, tutto ciò che stimola i sensi, dalle ombre, all’illuminazione stradale, alle stelle, alla vita di piante e animali notturni fino ai corpi umani avvolti dall’oscurità, insomma tutto ciò che l’uomo sperimenta durante la notte, dalla vita quotidiana fino al mondo parallelo dei sogni o la visita sgradita di fantasmi agli attacchi dei pirati. Il fine della Student Conference è analizzare la notte da un punto di vista storico di ampio respiro, partendo dallo stato dell’arte degli studi sul tema per arrivare a sottolineare peculiarità della notte rispetto al giorno e a proporre nuove declinazioni del notturno e della sua importanza per le attività umane del passato.

In this sense, we mean everything that fills the night with life, from the economic, political, social, cultural and religious activities of human beings to the behavior of animals, anything that stimulates the senses, from shadows, street lighting, stars, nocturnal plant and animal life to human bodies shrouded in darkness. In short, everything that humans experience during the night, from everyday life to the parallel world of dreams or the unwelcome visitation of ghosts to pirate attacks. The purpose of the Student Conference is to analyze the night from a broad historical perspective, starting from the state of the art on the subject and arriving at new declinations of the night and its importance for human activities in the past.
