Papa Hervé Camara died on 14 November 2023. He was my interpreter, host and confident in Guinea-Conakry while I was conducting my doctoral research. Initiated into the secrets of custom in 1954, and later a pious Muslim, he was a respected man in the village of Monchon (Kaméliya), courageous and caring, attentive to his family and guests, but also full of humor.
