Upon leaving school at the age of 15, Ted Parsons began working at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, beginning a remarkable career which would span some 53 years until his retirement from the library in 1980 (Clapinson and Clennell 2001). This period saw him progress from his initial position as a junior assistant in 1927 to Bodley’s Deputy Librarian in 1978.
