Isabelle Poutrin is the author of a book on the conversion of Jews in sixteenth-century Rome. The study of a particular situation gives her the opportunity to reflect on Catholic proselytism, its evolution over the centuries, particularly since Vatican II, the importance of the political context, and the use of various means, from preaching to the use of force. Consent, an issue found in other situations, is called into question.
