Postcolonialism : a history of languages What critical force does postcolonial thought contribute to the understanding of the contemporary world ? « Postcolonialism » is here taken as a theoretical process and literary project rather than as a historical, chronological state. Postcolonialism can be understood as an approach of diversity through the irreducible centrality of language. Historical diversity is thus intimately connected to the diversity of languages, and the presence of the historical subject to that of the linguistic subject.

Quelle force critique une pensée postcoloniale peut-elle contribuer à la vision du monde contemporain ? On postule ici que le postcolonialisme est un processus théorique et un travail littéraire, non un état historique, chronologique. Le postcolonialisme peut se comprendre comme une approche de la diversité à travers l'incontournable centralité du langage. La diversité historique est donc intimement attachée à celle des langues, et la présence du sujet historique passe par celle du sujet linguistique.
