Cette étude s’emploie à dénouer, dans la tradition dramatique, épique et postdramatique, les relations entre théorie et pratique théâtrales. Si elles sont un objet courant de représentation sur la scène contemporaine, elles sont pourtant depuis la Poétique profondément ambiguës. De ce point de vue, le fragment Fatzer constitue une expérience radicale, car le discours théorique intégré dans le texte vient remettre en question jusqu’à l’écriture de la fable et la possibilité même de raconter une histoire au théâtre. C’est en cela que l’héritage brechtien s’avère le plus productif pour le théâtre contemporain, car il trouve là une forme dans laquelle la pensée se fait constitutive du jeu et le théâtre philosophie.

Starting from the observation that in contemporary theatre practice the direct presentation of “theory” has become a common procedure the text attempts to elucidate the complex relation of the notions and practices of theatre and theory in the tradition of dramatic, epic, postdramatic theatre. In a first step the profound ambiguity of traditional aesthetics with regard to the presence of theory in artistic practice is briefly recalled. Then, Bertolt Brechts work on Fatzer is discussed as a particularly radical moment in Brecht where the theoretical discourse disrupts the possibility of aesthetic closure of dramatic narration. At this point the Brechtian heritage is the most productive : transcending not only the epic theatre but also the model of the Lehrstück towards a much more open concept of “theatre” beyond dramatic and also epic fabula.
