Résumé En

The LBK enclosure at Menneville ‘Derrière le Village’ (Aisne), discovered over 40 years ago, has been subject to a number of field investigations. Made up of juxtaposed ditch segments, it encircles a large settlement that is broadly contemporary. The enclosure is notably characterised by abundant faunal remains and atypical human burials, yet its understanding has been limited by the surface area excavated. The resumption of fieldwork from 2013 onwards has widened the scope of research, offering new perspectives on the site, the only one of its kind in the Paris Basin. Although fieldwork and analyses are still in progress, this article explores some new lines of thought, founded on the comparison of recent finds with earlier results. The picture that emerges highlights selection of artefacts, treatment of human bodies differing from normal funerary practices and the presence of codified associations. Altogether, these features suggest that the enclosure was used, at least in part, for ceremonial activities involving the ritual killing of people and animals.
