From a media crisis to the vulnerability of the educational institution? The case of “Islamic veils” of 1989

Résumé 0

Both media coverage and public policies over Islam have dramatically rised since the “Creil affair” (or “Islamic veils affair”) of 1989. This event triggered a strong interest from the press, radio and television, destabilizing state administration, at a local as well as a national level. This article, using both quantitative methods and archives (some of them used for the first time), studies how media pressure weighed on public policies.
