Olivia Paul, « The Fraternal Dynamic in Fostering: Considerations on the Separate or Joint Fostering of Siblings », Dialogue, ID : 10670/1.0dd51e...
The authors, who are specialists in child psychology, adopt a systemic perspective in highlighting the importance of the sibling group and its internal dynamics within the family. They seek to make theoretical contributions on the sibling dynamic through observation of the fostering of two brothers to further investigate the relative merits of joint or separate placement. The advantages of conducting an evaluation before placement to identify the indicators as to the fraternal relation are stressed. In the case study given, separate fraternal placement was preferred to encourage individuation and ensure protection for each of the children. Continual assessment throughout the placement also remains necessary to appraise the individual development of the children and how the fraternal relation evolves.
