Le déplacement de tantus à la position de tot, qui concerne les concepts de ‘magnitude’ et ‘multitude’, a été à l’origine de la grammaticalisation de tam magnus, locution bien conservée en ibéro-roman ( tamaño, tamanho). En espagnol tan et cuan ne sont pas des formes apocopées de tanto et cuanto, mais la simple continuation du latin tam et quam.

The displacement of tantus to the position of tot, which concerns the concepts of ‘magnitude’ and ‘multitude’, gave rise to the grammaticalization of tam magnus, well preserved in Ibero-Romance ( tamaño, tamanho). In Spanish tan and cuan are not apocopes of tanto and cuanto, but rather continuations of the Latin tam and quam.
