Résumé En

This paper presents an analysis of the main chronicles that appeared in the Turkish press in 1996-1997, and points out the existence of two main discourses. On the one hand, in that of the nationalist, Greece, the Greeks and the Greek Cypriots are seen as puppets of the West, and the island – at least its northern part – is considered as being beyond the scope of Turkish irredentism. On the other hand, authors writing in center-right or leftist newspapers seem uneasy and do not approve the Turkish way of acting, especially during the crises; Cyprus is often perceived as a burden. All condemn the political and military choices in the recent past; but since Cyprus became a matter of national honour, a consensus has appeared, against which public opposition would be criticized as treacherous.
