Du Cange and the Bolandists maintained a close scientific relationship. Du Cange drew on the Bollandists' editions of hagiographic texts published in the Acta Sanctorum when preparing his Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae latinitatis and his Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae graecitatis, while the Bollandists used both his glossaries in their research. Du Change also sent the Bollandists his surveys of the Greek hagiographic manuscripts, which he had studied in the King's Library and the Jean-Baptiste Colbert's library. In the controversy between the Bollandists and the Carmelites regarding the latters' origins, he defended the Bollandists’position. Finding primary sources and critical study thereof was important to both Du Cange and the Bollandists, as their respective work shows.

Du Cange et les Bollandistes entretinrent des relations scientifiques étroites. Le premier profita des éditions des textes hagiographiques publiées dans les Acta Sanctorum pour la préparation de son Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae latinitatis et de son Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae graecitatis, ouvrages que les Bollandistes utilisèrent pour leurs travaux. Il envoya également aux Bollandistes des relevés des manuscrits hagiographiques grecs présents dans la bibliothèque du Roi et celle de Colbert. Dans le cadre de la controverse des origines carmélitaines, il défendit la position des Bollandistes. Dans leurs travaux, on remarque que Du Cange et les Bollandistes étaient particulièrement attachés à la recherche des sources et à leur étude critique.
