Nous rapportons brièvement environ 2000 ans de thermalism e à Dax, une ville du sud-ouest de la France. Cette pratique médicale particulière remonte à la présence des Romains en Aquitaine. Les bénéfices pour la santé de l’eau minérale de Dax et des boues issues des berges de l’Adour ont été redécouverts durant le XVIIIe siècle. L’activité thermale a été l’élément clé à l’origine du développement de cette cité au cours des derniers siècles. Depuis maintenant plusieurs décennies l’agglomération dacquoise occupe une place prédominante en France concernant le nombre de cures à orientation rhumatologique et phlébologique. Quel sera le futur de cette activité à distance de la période covid ?

We summarize herein the about 2000-year history of balneology in Dax, a city from Southwestern France. Here this particular medical practice takes its roots from the Roman occupation of the Aquitaine province. Health benefits of Dax hypermineral water and peloid derived from Adour River mud were rediscovered during the 18th century. Balneology was the key element promoting the development of this city throughout the last centuries. For several decades Dax and its suburbs has taken the national leadership regarding attendance in the field of rheumatology and phlebology. What will be the future of this activity in the post-covid era ?
