Dans la Roumanie socialiste et postsocialiste, le système de genre patriarcal se reproduit grâce à la complicité entre l’État et les citoyen·ne·s. L’article explore à la fois les différentes formes de ce processus et ses discontinuités. Considérant que la position sociale des femmes dépend de qui contrôle les moyens de production et de reproduction, et de la manière dont ce contrôle opère, l’article porte sur deux types de subjectivités prescrites aux et pratiquées par les femmes : les femmes-travailleuses et les femmes-mères. Des interviews menées à Cluj entre 2000 et 2001 illustrent l’ambiguïté du processus par lequel « le bas » maintient et change peu à peu le patriarcat, dans un contexte où « le haut » (sous le socialisme et le postsocialisme) développe des politiques genrées de (re)production.

This article investigates the ways in which the patriarchal gender regime is reproduced in the Romanian socialist and postsocialist context through the complicity between the state and its (female and male) citizens, but it also highlights the cracks within this fabric. Recognizing that women’s position in society depends on who controls the means of economic production as well as biological reproduction, and on the ways in which this control operates, it focuses on two subject positions prescribed for and performed by women (women-as-workers and women-as-mothers). Interviews carried out between 2000 and 2001 in the city of Cluj serve to illustrate the ambiguous process of maintaining and slightly changing patriarchy from below, in addition to the description of the ways in which this happened/happens from above by means of the gendering (socialist and postsocialist) politics of production and reproduction.
