Kristin Hoefener, « Manuscripts from the founding period of the Convent of Jesus in Aveiro », HALSHS : archive ouverte en Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société, ID : 10670/1.1ac5d6...
The observant convent of Jesus in Aveiro, founded in 1458, was supported by the Portuguese aristocracy and royal family. It included the construction of buildings, a church, and a scriptorium for copying liturgical manuscripts, many of which remain in the convent library, now the "Santa Joana Museum." To start, they borrowed manuscripts from a nearby Dominican monastery. The convent's patronage influenced the liturgical focus on feasts celebrating Jesus and Mary, evident in the elaborate antiphoners, graduals, and processionaries. Notably, they included the office "O felix Germania" honoring Saint Ursula, showing connections to Cistercian and other Dominican convents and integrating it into their spiritual calendar.
