Awi and Gumuz are two ethnic groups in northwest Ethiopia. Based on the current administrative regionalization of ethnic federalism, Awi primarily live in Awi Administrative Zone (AAZ), found in the western fringe of Amhara National Regional State (ANRS), while Gumuz live mainly along the eastern part of Benishangul Gumuz National Regional State (BGNRS).
