Die Sozialdemokratische Partei Saar (1945 bis 1955). Zahlreiche Schriften sind schon über die Saar-Frage erschienen. Der Autor befaßt sich hier mit politischen, und zugleich historischen Begebenheiten, die bis jetzt wenig — um nicht zu sagen — überhaupt nicht beachtet wurden. Das Bestehen einer Sozial-Demokratischen Partei an der Saar, die mit der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands keine organisatorische Verbindung besaß, warf nicht unwesentliche Probleme auf deutsch-sozialistischer Ebene, sowie zwischen der Section Française de l'Internationale Ouvrière (S.F.I.O.) und der SPD auf. In dieser Perspektive werden verschiedene Aspekte der Rolle der Sozialdemokratischen Partei des Saarlandes — SPS — behandelt. Im ersten Teil geht es um die saarländische Innenpolitik, im zweiten Teil um das Verhältnis der SPS zur Außenpolitik. Keinesfalls darf dieser Beitrag als eine «Geschichte der Sozialdemokratie an der Saar » verstanden werden, sondern als eine Skizzierung der Hauptgegensätze, die in der SPS bestanden und sich verschärften, bis diese Partei, nach einer Spaltung in ihren eigenen Reihen, nach der Volksabstimmung von 1955 zugrundeging.

The socialist party of the Saar (1945-1955). A wide range of literature pertaining to the problem of the Saar region has already been published. Here the author deals with the political as well as with the historial facts, which sofar have only scarcely been taken into account, if not totally neglected. The fact that die socialist party of the Saar had no organisational affiliation with the German socialist party (SPD), raised massive conflicts with respect to the unity of the German socialist movement. The relationship between the French socialist party (S.F.I.O.) and the German socialist party had already shown this. In the aforenamed view, various aspects of the role of the Saar sociaist party (SPS) will be discussed. In a first part, the author reviews the attitude of the SPS towards the Saar region’s domestic politics ; in a second part the position of the SPS versus foreign politics will be examined. The present study should in no case be considered as a history of social democracy in the Saar, but rather as a characterization of the existing contradictions in the SPS. These internal dissensions grew until the party, having split in it's own ranks, collapsed after die 1955 referendum.
