L’adolescence difficile mobilise l’entourage familial et parfois une aide extérieure, un soin, auprès des psychologues ou des psychiatres. Souvent, la personne du père est appelée au secours pour venir contenir, stimuler, répondre aux symptômes observés. Si, dans l’enfance, sa fonction paternelle est symbolique, à l’adolescence, c’est sur le versant éducatif que le père est attendu, et que ses effets sont idéalisés. Pourtant ce père appelé est en même temps celui dont on doit s’émanciper, au même titre que la mère, faisant de l’adolescence un temps paradoxal. À ce paradoxe, le père pourrait répondre par une présence et non par une maîtrise pour permettre à l’adolescent d’exprimer sa créativité sur la voie de sa propre subjectivation.

A difficult adolescence mobilises the family entourage and sometimes external help in the form of treatment with psychologists or psychiatrists. Often, an appeal is made to the father to help contain, stimulate and respond to the observed symptoms. If, in childhood, his paternal function is symbolic, in adolescence the father is expected to play an educative role, and his effects are idealised. And yet this father who is appealed to is at the same time someone the adolescent must free himself from, just as he must from his mother, making adolescence a paradoxical period. The father could respond to this paradox by being present rather than by being controlling, in order to allow the adolescent to express his creativity along the path of his own subjectivation.
