Au début du XVe siècle, la ville et le port d’Harfleur, en Normandie, sont sous la domination anglaise. L’importance stratégique du port, qui sert aux anglais de base de ravitaillement, justifie plusieurs campagnes de fortifications, que révèlent les sources anglaises. La construction du «chastel», ou «Tour-perdue», des boulevards, et l’adaptation des ouvrages à l’usage du canon sont notamment bien documentées. Ces comptes de construction nous renseignent sur la nature des travaux effectués, ainsi que sur l’organisation des chantiers.
