The region of Northeastern Brazil is well known for its atypically located dry climate and for the great variability in total rainfall. Consequently, this dry climate is linked to a specific scrub vegetation: the caatinga. In the State of Bahia, various types of caatinga can be observed and, in the western part of the State, the transition with the savannahs (cerrados) is not only due to climatic factors. We used infrared images from GOES-8 meteorological satellite to map more accurately the limits between these two bioclimatic areas.
