Résumé 0

This paper tries both to propose hypotheses for analyzing the semantic and pragmatic meanings of icons and to illustrate them using famous photographs of the first part of the twentieth century, taken from the Georges Pompidou Center. The icon in modernity is currently experienced as polyvalent and polysemic. Only the contextual frame and the communication contract can determine a steady meaning of the photograph. Finally, we emphasize the importance of bodily resonances and therefore of the emotional dimension, which implies a transdisciplinary psycho-semiotic approach based as much on neuropsychology and psychophysiology as on clinical psychology.
