The problematization of participation through the history of governmentalityThe article distinguishes two ways of problematization in the contemporary works on participation (the “civic” problematization and the “critical” problematization) and explains how to articulate them within the foucaultian perspective of governmentality. It analyzes then the problematization of participation during the 1968s and shows how an internal criticism of De Gaulle’s state-dominant participative device rose up participative practices bound to a new regime of truth: the res nullius.

L’article distingue deux modes de problématisation dans les travaux contemporains sur la participation – la problématisation « citoyenne » et la problématisation « critique » – et explique qu’il est possible de les articuler l’une à l’autre dans la problématique foucaldienne de la gouvernementalité. Il analyse ensuite la problématisation de la participation dans les années 1968 et montre comment une critique interne au dispositif participatif étatisée du gaullisme a fait émerger des pratiques participatives liées à un processus de véridiction et de gouvernementalsation alternatives : la res nullius.
