Étienne Faisant, « L’apprentissage d’André-Charles Boulle », Revue de l'art, ID : 10670/1.279ued
Without doubt the most famous French cabinetmaker of the 17th century, André Charles Boulle is thought of as having been trained by his father Jean Boulle. However, an unpublished contract adds a nuance to this idea by providing proof that the young André Charles was apprenticed to Jean Armand for two years. The document has no information about what he was learning, but what is known of his master‘s work suggests that these two years that he spent with him were determinant for the acquisition of his know-how.
