Résumé 0

In the context of community relationships in Belgium, the evocation of the causes of the past is a commonplace in the analysis of the tensions and conflicts that characterise these relationships. The adoption of a path dependence framework of analysis, elaborated first in the field of historical sociology, allows us to test and refine the assertion that Belgium’s past shapes its conflictual present. By tracing the evolution of a historical trajectory which began at the end of the nineteenth century, I aim to explain, via this theoretical and methodological framework, the regular conflicts and the model of increasing autonomy that characterize the Belgian political scene.
