Résumé 0

Ernst Simmel was a German doctor who, during the First World War, worked as a war doctor in Posen in charge of soldiers suffering from trauma. Based on his experience, he conveyed his views in several lectures. One of them, entitled “Pathology of War Hysteria” was summarized in a medical review. In addition, he wrote a pamphlet, “War Neuroses and Psychic Trauma, Their Mutual Relations, Presented on the Basis of Studies in Psychoanalysis and Hypnosis,” published in 1918. Freud took notice of this publication. The lecture summary and the pamphlet remain untranslated and are presented here. We analyze the consequences of this pamphlet.
