Résumé
Eroticism is very present in the poetry of St. John of the Cross. Yet it’s impossible to read his work as “erotic-mystical” to justify the practices of such figures as Jean Vanier or Thomas Philippe, whose links with Carmel were very strong. It is precisely along this razor’s edge that authentic fervor is distinguished from false piety.
