This presentation is about libraries in Bologna, Italy. The city of Bologna offers you to visit libraries with excellent collections of books. Salaborsa library is a major public library in Bologna with a large collection of books. Salaborsa comprises 12,000 m2 of space and more than 100,000 volumes of books on different topics. The library headquarters is located in Palazzo d’Accursio here and located in Piazza Maggiore, overlooking the central Fountain of Neptune. Salaborsa is a multimedia library, meaning you can use not only books, but also audiobooks, videos and CDs. Also, the library offers free Wi-Fi for studies. There is a possibility to have a coffee in the cafeteria and relax a bit. If you study history and archaeology, you will probably be interested in the ancient history of the place where Salaborsa is now located. Below the ground floor of the library you can see archaeological ruins: Roman excavations and Etruscan stones. Also, in Salaborsa, there are many art installations. Sometimes, the library organizes themed evenings with writers and journalists who discuss various topics. Another library that you cannot miss is the Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna (BUB). Founded in 1568, this library is a favorite among students and history and culture enthusiasts. Located in Palazzo Poggi, there is a large collection of books, manuscripts and ancient volumes from many different authors and disciplines. But it is not only a beautiful place to study, the BUB is also a quiet environment, ideal for concentrating or simply picking up some books to read in a historical atmosphere. You can find useful books for your university studies, but also discover an important part of the academic tradition of the students of Bologna, a city that is home to the oldest university in the Western world. You will certainly enjoy getting to know this beautiful and historical environment and it will also be a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of Bologna! A third library that you must visit is the Biblioteca comunale dell’Archiginnasio. Like the others, it has a historical quality and is a quiet place to study. Originally, the building that contains the library was built to house some of the university’s schools, however, a large part of the building was rebuilt after World War II. Nowadays, many of the old classrooms are off limits to visitors because they are used to store many of the library’s 850,000 volumes. However, you can find a nice place to read in the reading and reference rooms. And when your mind needs a break, you can walk around the accessible places and admire the architecture and the ornamentation on the walls. Lastly, at least once during your stay in Bologna, pay 3 euros for a ticket and visit the Anatomical Theater and the Stabat Mater Hall. You will appreciate the historical beauty of the places.
