The environmental transition, and more specifically the energy transition,represents today a new challenge for territories and our Planet Earth, to theunderstanding of which geographers contribute with their analytical tools, and byparticipating in interdisciplinary research institutions, such as the Institute ofEnvironmental Transition at the Sorbonne University (SU-ITE). After recalling themultiple definitions of transition, and the approaches that can be associated with it, theobjectives of SU-ITE are presented. An example of the contribution of geographers tothis institute is presented, the analysis and mapping of the discourses of the nationshaving concluded the Paris agreement on climate change. These methods prove to be relevant for understanding the new world divisions and for anticipating the limits of theapplication of this agreement, 5 years after COP 21.

La transition environnementale, et plus spécifiquement la transitionénergétique, représentent aujourd’hui un nouveau défi pour les territoires et notrePlanète Terre, à la compréhension desquels les géographes contribuent avec leursoutils d’analyse et en participant à des dispositifs de recherche interdisciplinaire, telsque l’Institut de la Transition Environnementale de Sorbonne Université (SU-ITE).Après avoir rappelé les multiples définitions de la transition, et les démarches quipeuvent y être associées, les objectifs de SU-ITE sont présentés. Un exemple decontribution des géographes à cet institut est exposé, l’analyse et la cartographie desdiscours des nations ayant conclu l’accord de Paris sur le changement climatique. Cesméthodes s’avèrent pertinentes pour comprendre les nouveaux découpages du mondeet anticiper les limites de l’application de cet accord, 5 ans après la COP 21.
