"This article analyzes the relations between the processes of secularizationand the dynamics shown by the religious fields, faced with theemergence of new religious communities. It also explains the role playedby the so-called "sects" in comparison with the one played by traditionalrchgions. But, especially, this article explores the stigmatizationprocesses that aifect religious minorities, the social construction of tliesuspicion and, finally, makes a proposal: to rescue the term "sect" notas a sociological concept, but as key word that organizes internal narrativesabout religious competitors. I will use examples taken from theethnographic field research made among evangelical gypsies in theSouth of Spain."
