À la suite des attentats du 22 mai 2017 à Manchester, de nombreux habitants se sont tatoués l’emblème de la ville pour témoigner leur solidarité aux familles des défunts et aux victimes. À partir de matériaux issus d’Instagram, cet article a pour objet de comprendre pourquoi ces personnes non directement affectées par l’attentat ont inscrit de manière pérenne et dans leur chair les marques de l’événement, comment cette pratique de deuil collectif réaffirme des liens communautaires et participe à la construction de la mémoire future de l’attentat.

Following the terrorist attack on 22 May 2017 in Manchester, many inhabitants got a tattoo of their city’s emblem to express their solidarity with the victims and the families of the deceased. Using material culled from Instagram, this article aims to understand why these people who were not directly affected by the attack chose to inscribe in their flesh a lasting trace of the event, and how this exercise in collective grieving reaffirmed community bonds and contributed to shaping future recollections of the attack.
