Occasionnée par l’ouvrage de Benoît xvi, L’enfance de Jésus, cette étude traite de la nature du lien entre maternité virginale et filiation divine en référence à la thèse, énoncée par le professeur Ratzinger, de la compatibilité de cette filiation avec un engendrement naturel. Il faut alors admettre la contingence de ce lien dont le seul motif serait celui de haute convenance. Celle-ci soulève la question du réalisme de l’humanité de Jésus, que Thomas d’Aquin avait déjà abordée. Ce débat présente un enjeu œcuménique, la théologie protestante, hormis K. Barth, se montrant réservée à l’égard d’une virginité que la christologie n’exige pas. On observera toutefois une analogie entre les origines de Jésus et sa destinée pascale : la virginité de Marie est le signe de la filiation divine comme le tombeau vide est celui de la résurrection.

Brought about by the work of Benedict xvi, The Childhood of Jesus, this study treats of the nature of the link between virginal motherhood and divine filiation in reference to the thesis formulated by Professor Ratzinger, of the compatibility of this filiation with a natural generation. Therefore it is necessary to accept the contingency of this link whose sole rationale is that it is highly appropriate. This raises the question of the reality of the humanity of Jesus, which Thomas Aquinas had already broached. This debate introduces an ecumenical element, as Protestant theology, apart from K. Barth, shows itself reserved with regard to a virginity which christology does not require. However one can observe an analogy between the origins of Jesus and his paschal destiny : the virginity of Mary is the sign of divine filiation as the empty tomb is the sign of the resurrection.
